Plane to train in Pisa?

Hi, folks. My wife and I are flying into Pisa on a Friday at seven pm (local time) and plan to spend the night in Luca, where we have a room reserved. We're unable to get a clear idea of how far it is from the Pisa airport to the train station, and how best to get there, especially as jet lagged as we're likely to be. Anybody have helpful info? Thanks so much. This site has been so helpful to us. John Brownson/Oakland, CA.

John-

The Airport in Pisa is almost literally right downtown. Less than a mile (as the crow flies) from the station. Taxi is 5 minutes and (as I recall) under 10 euro.

There is frequent train service from the Pisa airport into Pisa' central train station; it's a few minutes for a couple of euros. Trains to Lucca leave the central Pisa train station frequently. Check with Trenitalia for schedules. You won't need reservations and can buy train tix in the station. The train station in Lucca is just outside the city wall. Get detailed instructions from your hotel about arriving there or take a cab. Lucca can be a confusing place to find places. For a splurge, take a taxi from the airport to Lucca. It's something like 10 miles, but may be worth it if you are jet-lagged, late, and hauling luggage.
