Plane, bus, train from Paris to Rome… which one to choose?

Hi everyone,

I need help with choosing the travel method from Paris to Rome. I prefer to fly but after reading bad reviews on Easy Jet, Ryan Air and wizz air. I freaks myself out now. Train is ok but too long (14 to 18 plus hours). Can you please share your experience? Thank you in advance.

Flying is currently the only practical option, unless you want to break your trip.

What also matters is when this will be, as currently the fast trains from Paris to Milano are not running. Once they start running again you will be able to do this trip in 10 hours. Via Switzerland currently takes 13 hours. Be aware that if you try to plan train travel to far in the future (more than a couple of months) you are usually going to get funny results.

To avoid bad experiences with low cost airlines just do not fly with them. There are other options.

Easy Jet is perfectly fine. Just be sure to follow the rules for whichever class of ticket you buy (with regards to luggage etc)..

Does anyone ever right good reviews of cheap airlines? And (unscientific I know) but I would wager that 90% of complaints are of the “I tried to bring a baby elephant on board and they said it was too big.., what about my human right to ignore simple terms and conditions…” variety.

I have flown EasyJet, RyanAir and other low cost carriers more times than I could count and I have never felt the need to write a review, good or bad.

If you don't want to use a budget airline, ITA and Air France also flies the route.

All the means of transportation have horrible reviews even the airline you are flying with to get to Europe e.g. the bus could crash and only has one toilet and it could get clogged, the train could derail or your bag could get stolen while your are sleep on it. As a frequent flyer since 2015: your best bet is Easy Jet (hey that rhymes).

What's your budget?
If you book far enough in advance you can get a one-way ticket on Air France for what I think are reasonable fares.

I see one for ~€100 in July. You get 1 hand baggage and 1 personal item (12 kg total). For ~€150 you can get 1 checked bag (23 kg). They also sell tickets on Transavia, a Dutch airline, at low fares.

I personally prefer teleportation, but while I wait for a breakthrough in that technology I fly. I have taken the train from Florence to Paris and back a few times when traveling by air was much more expensive than nowadays, but now? Thank you but no thank you. Plane all the way.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I am more relaxed now and ready to book the tickets with the airlines.
