If you have not done so already, take a look at the Rick Steves Rome tour and you will see what the tour does every day in Rome. I took the tour and it is excellent. The listing of activies will give you a good of how to plan your itinerary. Also make sure you buy the RS Rome book because it will also give you a wealth of information of what to see and do. If you plan to go to the Vatican, make sure you buy your tickets in advance. Plan to spend the day there as it is huge and there is a lot to see. You also must make reservations to see the Borghese Galley, it is a must see. Two hour limit to see the museum and start at the top and work your way down. Also, go to the scrapbook section of this website and look at the Rome and Italy scrapbooks and you will get a lot of ideas as to what to see and do from the scrapbooks on the days they were in Rome. Also if you have access to youtube, you can search Rome, Rome churches and Rome sites and you will get to see what Rome looks like and where to go and what to see. Great way to figure how what to do. Have a great trip.

Can recommend the Taste of Testaccio food tour offered by Eating Italy. 4 hours of wandering through the old area of Testaccio, its markets and eateries and tasting all sorts of wonderful food. Great guide (Luna. A wonderful way to spend a day in a lesser known but interesting part of Rome. They also offer a similar tour of Trastevere. A visit to Hadrian's villa at Tivoli is also worthwhile - beautiful grounds, ruins. Combine with a trip to Villa d'Este. The idea of following Rick's 7 days in Rome tour is a good one. I did the tour last year. We did formal tour things in the morning and then were let loose in the afternoon.

Without knowing what you like and dislike it's impossible to make itinerary suggestions. I think you should get a guide book and really read through it picking out the sites that you find most interesting. You only have 6 days so you'll want to fit in the sites that are the most important to you. You may find that you're not really interested in the "touristy" sites but want to visit the lesser visited sites. It's hard to know until you do the research. Donna
