We will be staying in Lezzeno, Italy near Bellagio for a few days and have a couple extra days before going home . We've already booked a return flight at the Milano airport, so would like to know nice places near enough to stay where we could easily drive back. OR, we could go somewhere farther away, even in other countries and get a return flight from there. We only have a few hours to be able to cancel that flight, so it would be so helpful to hear from some of you quickly! Thanks so much!

It's a problem taking a rental car cross borders and returning in a different country- hefty fees and possibly Vignettes required.
It would help to know where else you will have been.

I believe we’ve decided to go to Switzerland from Italy and fly to our connecting flight from there at the end of our trip. So that’s only one country we’ll have to pay the fees. Thanks so much for the info!

From Varenna, Lake Como, you can take the train to Tirano, Italy, Cross the plaza and take the regional train for the Bernina Express route, one of the most scenic train routes anywhere .
The Swiss have one of the best rail systems in the world. Again, ditch the car. Many Swiss villages are car free.

Well, we have changed our itinerary to Ribeauvillé, France. My sister was set on Switzerland until she saw pictures of Ribeauvillé, We have been to Switzerland and LOVE it but haven’t spent time in France except a brief stop in Paris a few years ago. This is making our trip more expensive, but oh well!
