We are planning to go to Florence and Venice in June but want to go to the lake area like Garda or Como. Any recommendations for a great place to,for a family that includes two girls age 9 and 11? And what activities are there? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

The girls might enjoy the Gardaland theme park on Lake Garda (near Peschiera, I think). On Lake Como, they will probably enjoy the short ferry rides. If you are based in Varenna, for example, you can take a 15 minute ferry ride to visit Bellagio and other towns as a day trip. However, there probably isn't too much in Varenna or Bellagio that would interest the girls, other than eating lots of gelato, unless they are interested in visiting the beautiful gardens around the various villas open to the public. I don't that would interest them, but I could be wrong!

Lake Garda fits in well with your other to cities. Gardaland is both an amusement park and an aquarium.
It is easily reachable from Pescheria del Garda station by shuttle bus.
The lake itself is a collections of cute villages which you can reach by both ferry and bus.
If you run out of things to do Verona is 14min. away by train.
