Hi,
We'll be in Rome the last 3 days of our trip Sept. 12-15th but want to take some day trips plus close to getting to the airport. Any suggestions for places to stay (not in the book) which might not be right in the heart of Rome?
thanks
For the reasons you mentioned we always in the Termini area. By staying within a couple blocks of the station you can walk and not have to deal with a Roman taxi driver. Also Termini would be the hub for day trips. And, of course, easy to catch the train to the airport.
Hi Brad - After taking large groups of tourists throughout Italy as well as travelling there for many years, I would say to you - Definitely stay in Central Rome and my suggestion would be The Hotel Forte - 100 yards from the Spanish Steps, walking distance to Via Veneto, The Trevi Fountain, The Roman Forum, Via CondottiRome's most exclusive shopping street, and a multitude of great Restaurants!
No cab fare required and a great hotel - Emanuel and Emanuella will give you guys the best of service for a fair price.
Ciao, Greg
I had to find a hotel in Rome that was affordable with one months notice last august for the following sept ( and it wasn't easy). and I found Hotel Canova (http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d280223-Reviews-Hotel_Canova-Rome_Lazio.html). It was near the Termani Station but not too near and there was no problem with street noise. The rooms were clean and the staff was awesome. I would stay there again.
Check the website of Hotel Giardino (in the book). Kate, the owner, and another hotel employee rent rooms just south of the heart, and have links on the hotel website. The rooms look very nice and are reasonably priced. One or both places are close to a metro stop.
