Hi all - my family and I have about a week in and around Florence at the beginning of August. I'm trying to find a nice B&B/agriturismo/villa hotel for the last few days to escape the Florence crowds, something somewhat upscale - updated and comfortable but not over the top place to stay. All I can seem to find are pretty simple B&Bs (which seem nice but we're lookign for a tiny bit of "luxury" and very high end hotels - nothing in between. Ideally it would be striking distance to Siena, we can rent a car if needed, and a pool would be amazing. Targeting $300ish per night max. Any thoughts?
Sadly you seem to be the victim of not booking sooner. Not surprisingly, most of the 'middle of the market' stuff is already taken, and only the extremes remain available on such short notice.
Other than to suggest going to Trivago , or your choice of search site(s), and plugging in your parameters, I have nothing to offer but a good luck wish
Maybe Agriturimo.it ?
This agriturismo might meet your needs.
You will need a car, but it's a few miles right outside Castellina in Chianti and about 12 miles to Siena.
I'm staying here in Siena in September. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3304710 Just checked and looks like they have some availability in August.
We spent four lovely nights in May at Borgo Casato about 20 miles east of Siena in Castelnuevo Berardegna. Pool, a/c, restaurant with great food, charming rooms, beautiful views from meals on the terrace. Definitely need a car.
We just stayed at the Castello delle Serre www.castellodelleserre.com about 30 minutes east of Siena. We were there three nights, booking two rooms for our family, and it was truly the most amazing place I've ever stayed at. The rooms were about $300 each, and they do have a family suite available, but it was booked by another family during our trip. I highly recommend it. It's a 12th century castle turned into a luxurious B&B and the owners are some of the most hospitable people I've ever met.
You have access to the entire facility when you're there, and if you look at the photos online, you'll see that it includes a really beautiful swimming pool, and the castle sits at the top of the highest hill in the small town where it is located, with views of Siena and Montepulciano off in the distance. Lovely.
