My husband and I will be going to Venice in September. Any suggestions/recommendations for moderately priced B&Bs?
For this kind of question, you get more useful answers if you give us an idea of what you mean by "moderately priced."
The last time I was in Venice I used venere.com and found Hotel Tivoli. It was inexpensive, had a good breakfast, and was almost easy to find. It's near the Frari church. Once I got oriented, I was able to walk to the train station from there. Use Venere.com then check with TripAdvisor.com for evaluations of hotels. I've stayed at other hotels in Venice, but mostly they deliver coffee to the room and provide prepackaged pastries (ugh!) for breakfast. I really prefer to go out to a nearby bar or cafe and have a capuccino and brioche (fresh!)for breakfast.
We rented an apartment from Hotel d'Art. It wasn't fancy but suited us perfectly. Next time I'll at least give them a call to see what they have available.
I believe Hotel d'Art is one of Rick's recommendatons.
Hi Mary Jo,
My husband and I stayed at Corte Campana B&B (www.cortecampana.com) and it was a great location. very close to San Marco Square. Riccardo is a great host. He's also recommended in the RS Italy book.
The rooms were very large and he had breakfast for us each morning. There was also free access to the internet which was really nice. He also was willing to give us many recommendations every morning and offered to even make reservations for us for dinner.
I would recommend going there.
Have a great trip!
Last year we stayed at the Hotel Abbazia in the Cannereggio section. I found this place in Frommer's and then on Venere.com. It is a short walk from the train station. The place is a former Carmelite monestery. Venice is an expensive city and moderate is a relative term. When we return we will stay there again.
Buon viaggio,
RB
moderate is difficult. I stay in adjacent Mestre since it is moderate. Ck for temps in Venice for Venice as air conditioning may be necessary for comfort.
Hotel Campiello, which is in Rick's book, has 3 spa-like bathrooms. On my last trip to Venice this past July our group of 5 stayed in their largest apt., apt. Dodesona, which has 2 bathrooms. I believe the 3rd apartment is similar in size to the Bucintoro. Pensione Guerrato has an apartment located near their pensione which I have heard is very nice.
ignore my previous reply--guess I should proof it before I hit the "post" button.
Hotel Campiello, in R.S. book, has 3 lovely apartments just steps from their hotel. They were new in 2007. In 2007 our family of 4 stayed in apt. Bucintoro with one bedroom and a pullout couch which our boys slept on. Beautiful bathroom with 2 sinks, bidet, shower and separate deep soaking tub. Returned 3 weeks ago from Italy and our group of 5 stayed in their apt. Dodesona, which had 2 bathrooms. I think the 3rd apt. is similar in size to the Bucintoro.
We stayed at Pensione Guerrato in 2005 and had a huge room with bath for the four of us. They also have an apartment near their pensione which I have heard is very nice.
Mary Jo,
You might have a look at Albergo Doni. (it's in the Guidebook). It's somewhat "basic" but does provide an Italian-style continental breakfast.
I'm not sure if "moderately priced" and Venice fit together too well. I found Venice to be generally more expensive than other locations in Italy.
Happy travels!
We've stayed twice now at Ca'Riccio B&B in the Canneregio neighborhood of Venice. An excellent value. Clean, well run, and located very close to all the main attractions while being off the beaten path, away from the crowds. Check out the B&B website www.cross-pollinate.com for info.
Mary Jo - Not a B&B but a great hotel with a perfect location and priced fairly - Hotel Cassanove directly behind Piazza San Marco and an easy walk to The Rialto Bridge area with great shopping, food, etc. At night you can walk out of your hotel a few hundred yards to the square and listen to the "Battle of the bands" as the cafe Florian plays against the other cafe's - A lot of fun - You can walk down the Grand canal and see all the restaurants, Gondola's, and other sights. Plus the Hotel will give you a free boat trip to The Island of Murano to see the famous glassblowing, and then on to the Island of Burano to see a beautiful island of lace and embroidery and good food. Free!
Dario and Steffano will take GREAT care of you and the Hotel has a wonderful Breakfast Buffett! Also included free.
Ciao , Greg

Venice has tons of bed and breakfasts that are reasonable. One site that’s pretty good is www.veniceby.com or you can dig around online and sometimes find the same places for a little less (less than $10 EU difference) but this site is pretty good at providing info and pictures.
We stayed at Ca Loredan - http://www.caloredan.com/en/. Nothing fancy but clean rooms, private bathroom, good service, and free internet. Location was pretty good – close to the water train stop, shopping, Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square), and the Rialto Bridge. Breakfast is included. For the money this was a great value but again, nothing fancy and was a little noisy (mostly people talking) at times (there’s a bar nearby) but it didn’t bother us. We stayed there in June for $100 eu/night. Marco is the owner. He is also part owner of Osteria Ai Storti (a great locals' restaurant), and speaks English very well.
And another OP who doesn't come back to respond...
