I am looking for a place to spend a week in Tuscany, not overly pricey but unique and nice. Any ideas? Also has anyone stayed at the Starhotel Metropole in Rome?

Tuscany is a big place. What cities or towns appeal to you? We absolutely loved Montalcino and stayed at the Rick Steves recommended Palazzina Cesira. Fabulous hosts, quiet, beautiful rooms in a very old (13th century I think) palazzo. They serve a sumptuous breakfast too. In Sienna, I can recommend Antiche Residenza Cicogna. Again a great breakfast, lovely restored rooms in a very old home. Find them both online.

What exactly to you mean by "not overly pricey?" Will you have a car or be traveling by public transport?

We rented a farmhouse about 8 miles outside of Siena. Take a look at Podere Le Caggia. We really enjoyed the house but you will need a car as it is a hike.
