Places to stay in Sorrento - near beaches, restaurants & transportation

We (3 adults & 3 kids) will be in Sorrento from May 24-30. Looking for places to stay near beaches for swimming (for the 3 boys), near restaurants (family friendly) and near transportation services (bus, taxis).

Budget: mid-range

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Looking at this, and your previous thread, I believe you need to do a bit more research on Sorrento and the AC. I'm not sure what kind of beaches you are expecting, but those in Sorrento and the AC are small and generally pebbled, not sand. The water might also be colder than you are expecting.

You will want to book your accommodations ASAP, as hotels will be booking up. Booking.com will be a good place to start, as you can filter for price point and other features. What price do you consider "midrange"?

Transportation services are very poor in the Sorrento/ AC area. The area will be very crowded in May, and the infrastructure is poor. The roads are always congested, and the regional train service is gritty. The SITA buses are packed , SRO, and often have long lines for the next bus.
Many folks pay for private car services, but even these are sitting on the congested roads.
The area is a victim of its Instagram success.
This is very late to be booking lodging.
Good luck and I hope you have a great family vacation.

I see you have a similar post from yesterday.

Get a guide book, review the posts under Italy here, and read the posted Trip Reports. Join the FB groups for the area, and watch u- tube videos. You really need to research this area, quickly, as many folks book lodging 6-8 months out . Best wishes .

What places do you intend to visit while there? You don't have to stay in Sorrento. If I wanted a beach, it would be Minori or Maiori. How old are the kids?

I wrote about our favorite hotel on another thread and is below.
We love Sorrento and never found it to be too crowded or congested. And we didn’t find the Circumvesuviana (commuter) train to be gritty, we enjoyed it. I think Sorrento has very good transportation options, train, bus or boats can take you anywhere. If the SITA bus (which takes you along the Amalfi coast) is too crowded, just take a boat.

We’ve stayed 3 times at Hotel La Tonnarella which has their own private beach. Very fun to swim in the Med, float around in a tube, or relax in a lounge chair. There’s an elevator that takes you up and down from hotel to beach. They have a great restaurant, fantastic buffet breakfast, several terraces with mind blowing views, and parking. Easy walk into the heart of town. There’s also a city bus (not SITA) stop right outside the hotel.
