Places to stay in Sorrento/Naples

Now, the last missing piece of the puzzle: We are taking a train from Florence to Salerno on 10/21 am, plan to take bus via Amalfi Coast to Sorrento for that night. Next day (10/22), train to Pompeii, bus to Mt Vesuvius, then Herculean and to Milan for the night. Any suggestions at either Sorrento or Naples? P.S. Taking ferry to Palermo (Sicily) from Naples 10/23 night.

Your plan seems a bit daunting and confusing. Train from Florence to Salerno in order to take the bus down the Amalfi Coast to Sorrento. That's a rather long ways and waste of time. You're better off doing the train to Naples and then taking the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and use that as your base. And then you say you're going to Milan the following day at night after having done Pompeii, Vesuvius, and Herculaneum (?) on the same day only to take a ferry the following day to Sicily? It's not making sense. If you've never been to Amalfi before and really want that experience, do what I did a few weeks ago. Stay in Salerno and then take ferries down the coast from there. Or stay in Sorrento and do the same. If you want a suggestion for Salerno I'd be happy to give you one.

Correct. Little more detail: 10/21 - travel to Salerno - take bus to Sorrento via Amalfi Coast (like RS recommends) - overnight at Sorrento. 10/22 - Pompeii/Herculean, Mt Vesuvius, overnight at Naples 10/23 - sightsee Naples and take 8 PM ferry to Sicily. Could reverse plan for 10/21 - get off at Naples, sightsee Pompeii/Herculean, but may not have time to go to Vesuvius. Overnight at Sorrento. 10/22 - bus via Amalfi Coast to Salerno. Train to Naples (fit in Vesuvius, if possible.)

We actually stayed for 3 nights in Pompeii at the Easy Bed Hostel (family of 5). It was amazing. We spent the entire day touring the area (Naples, Pompeii and Amamlfi coast). We returned to the hostel to a home cooked meal, I'm talking 5 courses, wine, beer and home made limoncello. Check it out, you won't be sorry! They also have a pool which is great if you are touring in the heat. We plan to return.

We just stayed at Palazzo Montefusco Relais in Sorrento (in early September) and loved it a lot. They are the #1 rated B&B in Sorrento on Trip Advisor and for good reason. The location can't be beat and the rooms and hotel are very clean, comfortable and modern. Have a great trip.
