Places to stay in Milan

I will be traveling to Milan in mid-March and would like recommendations for 'Rick Steves recommended" places to stay. I don't have his book with me and I need to make reservations. I'm traveling single, appreciate single rooms (toilet and shower down the hall is ok) and look for something between 49 and 60 euros. Internet, centrally located, close to transportation, english speaking and breakfast are features I'm looking for. I haven't gone wrong with a Rick Steves recommended place.

I'd appreciate knowing what you recommend.

2 budget hotels about a block or 2 from the main train station.
Hotel Garda and Hotel Berna are almost across the street from each
other. Metro station on the corner, great location and several places to
eat near by. I've stayed in both - Garda is a bit cheaper than the Berna.
They are located on Via Napo Torriani (street name)

Those are good hotel recommendations but not in your stated budget. Rick doesn't recommend any one-$-sign options in Milan, although there are a number of hotels near the train station that you might find in a search on Google Maps or booking.com. Dorm beds at [Ostello Belle Grande](www.ostellobello.com) cost 40-45 euros/night.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll need to increase my budget.

Another thing to consider is that Milan is a big convention town. A big event will drive up hotel rates all over town.
