Places to stay in Milan

My entire family is traveling to Milan and then to Lake Como in Sept. While we have a nice house in LC already reserved, we are striking out on a house in Milan. I have been on so many websites, but they are usually for 6 people max. There are 8 of us, including a 4 year old and an 84 year old, so we'll need an elevator if the apt is on an upper floor. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Gloria,

We just got back from Italy and stayed at Hotel Berna for the night we were in Milan. I know it's not an apartment but we really loved it hear. It was very close to the Train station which was convenient. And the hotel was very elegant and a good price for that city. They had breakfast included (which was the best we had in all of Italy). Plus the minibar had a variety of beverages which were all FREE. We thought that was amazing. We found this on Hotels.com so take a peak if you can't find an apartment.

Good luck!

Gloria, I have to echo the above post. Hotel Berna is within walking distance (with carry-on luggage) from
Milan Termini. A very nice business hotel (with elevator)a great staff and the best breakfast we had in Italy (they even included Tiramisu on breakfast buffet). We arrived after 10:00 pm and they were expecting us and had everything ready for our late arrival. They probably have quad rooms. We booked on Venere.com and found that the room prices varied a lot season to season. There are many trains per day to Varenna and we just walked to the train station (no particular schedule) and bought a ticket to Varenna. We had to laugh because the ticket seller said " Varenna or Verona" just like in Rick's Italy book.

From the hellomilano website: Flats and apartments are in high demand. The easiest way to find a flat to rent or buy in Milan is to use the services of one of the real-estate agencies specialising in property for non-Italians. Agencies work either on a percentage basis – about 15% of the total rent charge once the contract has been finalised – or on a fixed-fee basis, in which you pay say Euro 150 and then get put into contact with the owners of property to rent. Most of the classified ads in free-ad publications such as Secondamano are of the second type, and you find yourself talking to a “Centro Servizi” which wants the money before going any further. Beware.

That said, a friend used this website:http://www.rentxpress.com/ and was pleased with her apartment.
