Places to stay in Manarola, in the Cinque Terre

I want to add a few days on to my tour and spend it in the Cinque Terre. Have an older RS guidebook of Italy, thought I would contact places listed. But can anyone recommend a place to stay for two nights in Manarola? I know Rick likes Vernazza, but I thought Manarola would be less crowded? Should I change my mind? Also, I saw another conversation about the train and tickets. And it sounds like getting the CT Treno MS Pass in La Spezia would be the way to go. And that not all trains stop at all the towns, but always at Vernazza. So would it just be smarter to book my rooms in Vernazza? Thoughts? K

I use Booking.com, where you can search by all kinds of parameters (most important, by what is available), and reviews are validated. I always say picked based on the accommodation itself, because the villages are all minutes apart by train. All get day tripper crowds, so what I would do is look for something that is really high up (if you don't mind the extra steps)--view is the most important thing to me when choosing accommodations in a place like this.
I am not 100%, but I think the train stops at all of the villages, though an intercity train would bypass some of the villages. (I thought it was Monterosso that received all trains, but again that is not as important as where you want to be. For example, maybe you only want to walk to dinner and not take a train, then I would say do some restaurant scoping and choose based on that. Those that want a beach tend to choose Monterosso.)

We really enjoyed our stay at Aria de Mare. I originally got it out of the RS guide. The view from the terrace off our room was one of my favorite in all of CT. It is moderately priced, spotlessly clean, view of Manarola and the ocean and very close to Billy's a wonderful restaurant. We would have eaten there both nights had we eaten there the first night! We loved the peaceful town of Manarola (also liked Riomaggiore, "next door")

We stayed in Manarola when we visited Cinque Terre and were really glad we chose that village. We hiked over to Vernazza one day and it was so crowded we could not stand it. Manarola was much quieter, at least then. We stayed at La Torretta which was lovely, but their prices have gone way up since we stayed there 14 years ago, so it is not affordable. But there are other nice places in town. Gabriele, the host, made a dinner reservation at Trattoria da Billy and we were treated very well. The food and service were great. Be sure to reserve if you want to dine there.

Hi Kathy -
Regarding rail, this website has a schedule for Cinque Terre trains, valid from May 3,

https://www.cinqueterre.eu.com/en/cinque-terre-timetable

Prices for both individual tickets and Treno Passes are different depending on low/medium/peak seasons, special weekends, events, etc. Fortunately, doesn't look like you'd be paying top dollar for either in mid October! :O)

We stayed her in October 2022 and were very happy with our room and the location. It was listed in one of his guidebooks, again may have been an older version. I think all the trains stop at all the towns.

When we visited CT, trains did not necessarily stop at all the towns. At the end of the day, we were leaving Riamaggiore and expected the train to stop at Manarola. It did not, it didn't stop until Vernazza. We had to purchase another ticket to get back to Manarola.

On two different trips we stayed here www.sangiorgiocinqueterre.com/rooms/
I'm not sure what your budget is but the accommodations were lovely. It is easy to get to from the train station. We preferred staying in Manarola over the other towns for many reasons (less crowded, charming town, easy to walk around, very quiet once the day trippers leave). One of our favorite places to eat in Manarola is Nessun Dorma. The view is stunning, food and wine excellent.

Another vote for Aria de Mare. It sound like we had the same room with the patio and gorgeous view. It was a bit of a climb through town but I enjoyed leaving the crowds behind and did not find it a big deal. We were there in Spring 2019.

I had the impression that all the rooms had that view. We were ground floor.
