I am doing my research for a future trip to Sicily. I would appreciate input as to places to go and things to see. I have heard that it is beautiful in Sicily...is it anything like the
Cinque Terre coastline? I could have stayed there forever.

We went to Sicily on a group tour about 10 years ago. Fabulous! My two favorite things were wading in the Ionian Sea at Taormina and visiting the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
The cathedral at Monreale (20 minutes outside Palermo), Siracusa, Taormina, Segesta, Piazza Armerina. Scenery is beautiful; food, delicious.
Here is a site I used for info all about Sicily. I was there in November and it is fabulous!!!
The Zingaro Reserve in the northwest is somewhat similar to the Cinque Terre. There's a trail from Scopello to San Vito Lo Capo along the Golf of Castellammare.
The volcanic scenery found on Mount Etna and the Aoelian Islands (Stromboli) are very beautiful and quite unique to Sicily.
Beautiful towns (Taormina, Noto), friendly people, great weather and very delicious food with reasonably priced accommodations makes Sicily an outstanding place to visit.
Doreen, I am at planning stage of my third trip to Sicily. The first was a 14 day CST Archeological tour basically around the island, which included Lipari and Stromboli. Next trip was 3 1/2 weeks on my own, re- visiting places I loved, and staying for up to 5 nights. Public transport is generally very good, especially the bus links. Agrigento, Siracusa, Palermo, Trapani for Erice and Segesta, Selinute, and Taormina and Cefalu for a little R&R at the end. I plan to visit the navel of Sicily next year - Enna, and surrounding areas. If you like hiking, the Madonie and Nerodi Parks, and of course Etna. You might like to read The Stone Boudoir.
