Places to see in December from Florence

I figured I’d start a new topic now that my travel plans are in place. I’ll be in Florence December 7-16. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of holiday lights, which it seems starts on the 8th. I arrive in the morning of the 7th, so I’ll have a little time to get settled in. I know I want to climb the Duomo again, so I’ll be reserving that ticket, but I probably won’t see the museums again. I’m thinking of taking the train to Venice and spending one night and I want to see Siena, Arrezo and Montepulciano since they apparently go all out for the holiday. I might also try to see Lucca again, but I can leave that out if there’s not enough time since I do want a few days just to wander Florence. Are there other places you know of that I really shouldn’t miss for the festive season?

As always, I appreciate any input you can offer. Thank you!

If you don’t have a car Montepulciano would be very tough to visit from Florence on a day trip. Actually the Montepulciano area deserves a car even if you stay overnight.
The following are easy day trips from Florence by train and/or bus within 1.5 hours one way.

Arezzo
Bologna
Cortona
Pistoia
Lucca
Montecatini Terme
Pisa
Pistoia
San Gimignano
Scarperia
Siena (by bus 15 min faster)

I'd like to spend one night in Venice so I can enjoy the evening lights as well as the quiet morning. Plus, it will give me more time to wander around and maybe check out Murano and Burano (not sure if that's the right name). I'll keep my Airbnb in Florence and just plan to get a hotel for one night in Venice. I was thinking maybe I'd go there Friday morning and return Saturday evening. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd love a place that will store my overnight bag until I can check in and for a few hours after I check out.

Also, can I just get a ticket on the tram from the airport in Florence to the train station once I land?

Thanks!
