Places to see and thing to do on Drive from Cortona to Rome

What would you suggest to see or do on a ride from Cortona to Rome? Can also include the area around Cortona such as Siena, San G, Pienza which I would expect we should visit. We are not interested in art or history but mostly scenery, shops, food, cultural life, a winery. Suggestions? Is there not much to see or do after leaving the above mentioned areas?

The Val d'Orcia, where Pienza is located, is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in Tuscany. I am going there in 30 days so I will be happy to confirm for ya :-). It is one of the more photographed landscapes in Italy.

I'm doing the reverse trip in about 3 weeks, travelling from FCO to a friends house just east of Cortona.

Travelling from FCO along the coast and up to Bolsena, with a look at Civita as well.

Orvieto is a lovely and lively small city, well covered by Rick. Understand that you will not be the only tourists there.

I enjoyed wandering around Tuscania, not too far from Viterbo. Very old hill town that had remarkably few tourists early last June.

You have a nearly unbelievable number of very sttractive options in that area.

We really loved Montepulciano and there's definitely wine in that area (and a tasting room off the main square), but our wine palates preferred Montalcino's brunellos (also a nice town). We stayed near Pienza, but didn't love the town itself that much compared to some of the others. We also stopped at Civita on our way down to Rome and really enjoyed it (some think it's underwhelming but we loved how untouched it felt). It was pouring the day we went to Siena, so I'm not the most objective person on that town but many friends have visited and loved it.
