Renting a car and driving fm Sorrento to Montepulciano and looking for a fun place to stop for lunch. Will be spending some time in Orvietto later so looking for another option perhaps a couple hours or so into the trip but am flexible. 2 foodies in September
We really enjoyed Cassino. The Abbey above the town, Montecassino, is wonderful. We enjoyed our meals at Antica Osteria Galio (sp) Limone. They’re open for lunch, Tuesday thru Saturday.
If you've never stopped at a large, full-service highway service area in Italy, you should do so at least once. The larger restaurants are usually branded Autogrill or Chef Express, are well signed on the road. The Saveur article below starts off pretty negatively, but ends up seeming to recommend the same cafeteria part of the operation that I think of as the reason for stopping at the largest branches that stretch over the roadway.

If, by chance, the first weekend of September, then the Garden of Ninfa, which is the centre of the universe - not lunch but a feast for the soul - ha!
If not, Tivoli for Villa d'Este, followed by lunch at Il Falcone. I'm no foodie (don't even know what it means) but we had a nice lunch here.
