The question is what do you like? What is your age, travel style, budget , group size, and what are your interests? Perhaps get a RS guide book, read the Trip Reports posted here, and review the posts under the Italy section in the Forum. Watch some RS videos.
Do you like ancient Italy, art museums, foodies etc.?
Do a bit more research, see what appeals to you, and come back once you have a draft itinerary.
If this is for this spring or summer, you're actually a little late to have a wide choice of lodging. Italy saw massive amounts of travellers last year, and all indications show a repeat of those crowds this year.
Safe Travels!

Pat is correct, if you truly want a trip geared towards your interests. Without knowing more about you and the rest of your “we,” the easy answer is spend 3 nights in Milan or Bologna, then at least 3 nights in Florence, and a week in Rome.

If you want southern Italy instead, spend a week in Sicily and a week in Rome, OR a week in Sorrento, using it as a base for visiting Naples, the Pompeii and Herculaneum ancient sites, the Amalfi coast, Capri, and Sorrento itself, then a week in Rome.

Try a new flavor of gelato every day.

Whenever we visit Italy we make a point of spending one day going to churches. We pick out 5 or 6 within a nice walking distance of our hotel and just go explore. These are often full of priceless art and free to enter. I've done thins in Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan and Naples and have only been asked to pay a nominal entrance fee a few times.

Hi, if it helps, your current question is similar to saying you want to visit the United States for 14 days, and you have already been to Los Angeles.

When you’re picturing a couple of wonderful days in Italy, what are you doing, what are you seeing? More indoors or outside in nature, inland or on the coast or near water? Also, it’s very helpful if you add which month you will be traveling.

When my adult daughter was coming with me for two weeks for her first time to Europe, I listened to her description of describing some wonderful days and came up with nine different itinerary options for her to choose. This is the one she chose:

What time of year would you plan to take this trip? I wouldn't recommend all the same places in April and August.

What Italian airports can you reach at reasonable cost (assuming you care about cost)? I'm a big fan of not wasting a lot of time sitting on trains and buses when I don't have much time in a country.

Italy is fabulous. It has a great variety of sights scattered the length and breadth of the peninsual, plus there's Sicily (which to me needs 2 weeks, not 1). You can go nearly anywhere and have a great vacation. More details will help us give you suggestions especially suitable to you, your point of origin and your schedule.
