We leave 2 p.m. on train from Brescia(south of Lake Garda) to Venice. Should we have one night between? We've been to Verona. Is there another town near the train line that is interesting for an overnight stop? Padua seems too close to Venice to be worth an overnight.
The whole ride to Venice is under two hours, so there's really no need to stop at all. Don't cut Venice too short; we don't know how much time you have budgeted there. Padua is a good place to spend a night, especially if that helps with timing a reservation for the Scrovegni Chapel.
Vicenza is a very nice place with more of a small-town feeling in its historic district. There's more to see and do in Padua, for sure, but I've often recommended Vicenza as a side-trip.
Do you plan to walk the whole way?
It’s not that far otherwise. No need to stop overnight.
You guys are so helpful and practical. Thanks.
