Place to stay near train station

Anyone have suggestion for place to stay close to train station, Venice...
We will be taking train from Cinque Terra to Venice for one day. Will be taking the train the next am for Munich... So many choices in RS travel book, can't decide.

Thanks Frank, I need to learn how to make my posts more specific.... I actually am looking for a hotel in Venice near the train station for the same reason as Marjorie at the Roma Station.... need to leave early next morning and don't want to drag luggage through town for the short stay in Venice. thanks for your quick response.

The train station is located in the Cannaregio West sestieri (district) of Venice. You might search for hotels in that area. Note that certain parts of Cannaregio are not really within easy walking distance of the train station. You might also look at the Hotel Papadopoli. It's adjacent to the Piazzale Roma across a foot bridge. To get to the train station, you would have to cross the new bridge over the Grand Canal but it's all walkable (and luggable over the bridge).

We just returned from Venice and had a great stay at the Hotel Abbazia, which is right around the corner from the train station. Rooms are great, breakfast included, and good air conditioning. http://mobile.abbaziahotel.com/
Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Thanks ALL. So far have struck out on all suggestions. What are the chances of going and finding a place via RS book?

You mean showing up without reservations at all? Showing up with only your RS book and walk from hotel to hotel asking for a room. Don't do it! What date are you planning on staying in Venice?

Ya, I agree it's pretty stupid Tim. We are only going for one night, as it turns out to be a last minute stop on our way to Munich. September 20th...the day we're looking for a single night stay.

Jacque, As you have a copy of the Italy Guidebook available, I believe there are a few listings for Hotels near Venezia Santa Lucia listed there. You could start with those. My Guidebook isn't available at the moment, so I can't check. In the same situation, I'd probably try to get a reservation ASAP, so that you don't have to waste a lot of time looking for something when you arrive in Venice. Happy travels!
