My husband and I will be taking train from Venice to Milan in October, staying in Milan for 1 night. Taking flight out the next afternoon back to states. Any hotel recommendations for hotels in train station area so we can easily use local transportation to airport? We will be there October 16.

If you don't get many replies here then also use the grey search box above for "Milan hotel." It has been a fairly frequent topic on this forum. Rick's recommendations are in his Italy guidebook, but there are many hotels near the train station that would be good enough to sleep in for one night.

You might have a look at Hotel Garda which is only about a five minute walk from Milano Centrale (I know, as I've timed it). There are several other hotels on the same street. From Milano Centrale, it's easy to take the Malpensa Express (train) to the airport. The trip is about 52 minutes and DON'T forget to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!
An alternative would be to stay in one of the hotels near Via Dante, which is closer to the Duomo, Sforza Castle and Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele. One hotel you could look at is Hotel London. It's also easy to reach the airport from there using the other route of the Malpensa Express from Cadorna station.
