I am traveling with 3 other adults in the Tuscany area for two weeks this fall. On Oct 8 th we will be taking a train from Monterosso deMare to La Spezia to Florence. We wanted to stay near the airport to catch a 9:00 flight home.
How far is the train station to the airport, and any suggestions of places to stay that last night?

The new tram line, T2, is now operating between Amerigo Vespucci Airport and near Florence's SMN train station (runs every five minutes, takes 20 min, runs 5:00–24:00). There are lots of hotels around the train station.

Spend it in Florence. The train is frequent and quick. I am sure the 9am flight is a domestic flight so 7/7.30 is plenty early for that airport. Pick any of the hotels near the train station.

The airport is 20 minutes by taxi or tram from the train station area, so there's no need to stay near the airport. As others have suggested, enjoy a final evening in central Florence and head to the airport in the morning. Note that the T2 tram doesn't have luggage racks, but it does stop just a short walk from the airport entrance and has dedicated lanes along its route. I often stay a Il Bargellino which is less than a 10 walk from the train station, but there are many choices of various price levels in the area.
