Place to stay in Via Veneto region of Rome

Ciao, amici I got a tip from my Italian language instructor, who is from Rome, that the Via Veneto region of Rome is a good area to stay in. This appears to be in the region of the Cappuccin Crypt, Fontana di Trevi, Galleria Borghese, Fontana Tritone, etc.
If you have stayed in this region, what would you recommend? Grazie a tutti!

That's farther north than I would choose, since I prefer the area from Piazza Navona to Campo de' Fiori, but that's just a personal preference. I tend to think of the Via Veneto area as being more oriented to high-end shoppers than I care for. Check out RonInRome.com for info on hotels by neighborhood. And of course there are the RS books which are really excellent for lodging recommendations, organized by neighborhood. Happy travels.

I like this area of Rome. It's not as heavily touristed as the city center near the pantheon and piazza navona yet you are still close to the sites and many many restaurants. You'll be able to walk easily to most sites or catch the metro or several buses if you wish. If you can find a hotel you like I would not have a problem staying there. Donna

We stayed at Hotel della Regioni. Great location. Rome not bad - clean, small, with AC. Staff helpful and friendly. So easy to walk everywhere

Thanks for the replies thus far! I appreciate any and all input! I should have added that last time we were there, we stayed about a half mile west of the Vatican City. The first day there, we walked from our B&B, past the Vatican, and into "downtown" and did Rick's "Night Walk Across Rome"! Wow, that was a LOT of walking!! So I'm thinking that anywhere within this area we stay will be a LOT closer than that! =-)

Anywhere in the city center will provide good access to the sights. I'm not crazy about the Via Veneto area as it has the largest concentration of high hotels and many of the shops and restaurants come with similar price tags. Fellini Inn between Trevi Fountain and Piazza Barberini is a good option near that area. My favorite place in Rome is Nicolas Inn in the trendy but reasonably priced (at least for my budget) area of Monti near the Forum/Colosseum.

If you are happy for paying for all the frills and perhaps getting them, the Via Veneto is for you, maybe. It is, really, to Rome as Rodeo Drive is to Beverly Hills. We stayed a couple of streets over in the Sofitel and we were close to the bottom of the gang there. Very nice, but overpriced. Most of the restaurants around there appeared the same to us.

Wow, yes, I'm seeing this is an expensive area! Will have to ask my instructor for other areas of his home city to recommend.... =-)
