Place to stay in Rome

We will be staying in Rome in October, just one night.
Having a difficult time finding a place that isn't extremely expensive.
Looking for a place for 4 in the center or close to a metro.
Any suggestions?

What’s extremely expensive?

How much do you wish to spend?

I was looking for a short trip in October as well. I haven't booked anything yet, but there were a large number of relatively affordable places (~100 Euro) near the train station (Termini). It isn't the most charming neighbourhood, but it is very well connected by transit to everywhere that is.

We've stayed at Hotel Mimosa on Via Santa Chiara. Decent 1 star hotel on slightly quieter side street near Pantheon. Send them an email directly for best rate.

We always book with airbnb because we love being around the local people and like having kitchen and laundry facilities. I've never paid more than $75/night and have been extremely pleased with all of the places we have stayed in.

You can also stay in a convent. Go to Monasterystays.com and do a search. We have stayed the one linked below. It is in via Sistina and there is a metro station about a block away at the top of the Spanish Steps. There is another metro about 2 and a half blocks away in the other direction. There are lots more to choose from too.

Be careful about cancellation policies if you consider booking through monasterystays. I looked into doing that in a different part of Italy and was shocked to see a cancellation fee over 150 euros.

Also be cautious of extra fees that can come with airbnbs, most specifically cleaning fees and service fees as they can jack the final price up quite a lot. It's not so tough to swallow if averaged over, say, 4 nights to a week but often not worth it for one night.

I use Booking.com almost exclusively, I will go to a hotel website and compare, just to see, once I find them on Booking.com, but usually wind up reserving on Booking.com

Also, by "four", what are you looking for? are you a couple and kids, two couples, four adults? Larger rooms are going to be tough to find, an apartment a pain for one night (especially if you can't leave bags someplace and they won't meet you until 4 or 5PM, and want you out by 9 AM). There are family rooms, or you might be looking at two doubles.

Also take a look at The Beehive:

As you've not answered the question about your traveling companions yet. I'll assume you are all adults? And are you 4 or 3 (your previous posts indicate 3). You are probably looking at two private, ensuite rooms (scroll to the bottom of the 2nd link).

This has been a very positively reviewed accommodation for quite a number of years, and it's close to Termini. It's also not just for young people, although the dorm-room guests certainly would add some energy and interest to the shared spaces! :O)

Like others, I use booking.com.

There are hordes of hotels around Termini Station. They are in all categories. Reviews are pretty good and cost is very acceptable.

If you use booking, put in Termini Station Rome and then whatever else you are looking for. You will get almost too many results.

Hotel Aberdeen, near the train station, is one of the more affordable hotels in Rome. It’s used by RS’ tour groups.

When we hit Rome for a night or two we always stay in the Termini area -- very convenient to the trains and other transit. A couple of good restaurants in the area. It is a busy area with lots of people going to from the train station. We generally use Hotel Sonya across from the Opera house and about two blocks from the station. Also have used Hotel Contilla -- cheaper with a so so breakfast but more than adequate for one night and it just one street over from Termini out the south door. Aberdeen is very nice hotel but a good six blocks from the station. The Target restaurant behind Aberdeen is nice white table cloth restaurant with outdoor seating.

Hotel Smeraldo has family townhouses in an adjacent building which worked wonderfully for our family of four.

As Carol mentioned, and many on this forum, we have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen several times and actually just returned from there yesterday after spending one night. The staff is A+, the breakfast is very good and it is clean. We made our reservations about 6 months ago for two "standard double" rooms for one night. Unfortunately, our rooms were not very good this time. Our friends had a room overlooking a very dirty alley (quite scary looking actually) and there was no air. We tried to switch them, but the hotel was full. I would not hesitate to go there again, but I would make sure to reserve a superior room.

Everything is expensive because you are looking last minute and most hotels are already booked. I reserved my hotel for october months ago and the price is a third of what I'm seeing now
