Place to stay in Milan Italy

Howdy there,
Would you have any recommendation where to stay in Milan Italy?

We would stay at Hotel Speronari (recommended by Rick Steves) but the phone call would not go through - msg says can not get through to this country at this time (strange). I dialed 011-39 + the local number to the hotel.

Thank you in advance for any special recommedations you might have (=:

shop the web.

www.venere.com

YOu can choose city, location within the city, * rating, price, etc.

We picked several hotels this way and have never been disappointed. Rick's hotels are fine, but everyone that reads his books try to book that same hotel. Forget it!

don't be a sheep...strike out on your own, be adventurous and find some place to say that suits your needs for location, price, etc.

Buon Viaggio!

well I have struck out on my own and had some hotel disasters, but now I go to Trip Advisor too and read the most recent reviews. that is another way to check it out, those charming color photo galleries don't always tell the whole story!

I agree - strike out on your own providing you can "verify" a positive review on at least one other site. Venere and TripAdvisor are both good sources of reviews, so if a place reviews positively on both feel confident it will be a good place - I've never been disappointed using that system. If you want to triple check, check Frommer's and Fodor on-line as well.

Using Venere was the only way I could find reasonable room rates in Milan (that weren't booked). While Venere has some reviews on the hotels, I also went and checked reviews on Trip Advisor.

Thank You for the tips Jen, Thomas and Chere.
We're now booked in Hotel Canada, right near the center of the city near train and bus lines. The place had a lot of great reviews and I managed to get one room for two people @110 Eur and another for one person for 83 Eur on travelocity. Seemed like a bargain compared to a lot of the other places.

Thanks again!

Ive reserved Hotel Garda for 65 Euro per night in Sept. Seems like a great rate. I wonder if anyone else has stayed there?
