Place to Stay in Lake Como, Vavenna

We are traveling to Lake Como early July and looking for a hotel/B&B in Vavenna . We don't need anything fancy, but clean, good location, maybe a view? Thanks!

I've read great things on the internet numerous times about Paul Wright's Bed and Breakfast. TripAdvisor has 12 excellent ratings. He is an artist, and rooms can be booked at www.wrightart.com

Janet, I assume you're referring to Varenna? There are a number of accommodation choices you could consider: > Albergo Miilano (a favourite here, but often booked as it's so popular) > Hotel Eremo Gaudio (a bit of a hike up the hill, but views are great) > Villa Cipressi (an elegant old mansion, right in the centre of town - you can tour the beautiful gardens there and at Villa Monastero next door) > Albergo Olivedo (next to the Ferry dock - an older Hotel but I found it to be quite comfortable - they also operate Villa Torretta next door - dining on the Patio and watching the Ferry traffic is one of my favourite activities!) > Royal Hotel Victoria (also right in the centre of town - somewhat "upscale" but VERY nice) There are other choices listed in the Guidebook. If you don't have a copy available, take a drive up to Edmonds one day and use the free Library at ETBD, which is stocked with all the current Guidebooks from Rick Steves and other travel firms. A trip to ETBD would also allow you to speak with Rick's travel experts. Especially for travel in July, I would highly recommend getting something booked SOON! You may have to increase your budget for lodgings and take what you can get. Buon Viaggio!

We found Hotel Olivedo to be anything but great and would not stay there again. Hotel du Lac may be a splurge but it looked fantastic. I think Eremo Gaudio may have a funicular or lift to get up to it and the reviews seem very favorable. The view would be good and would not overlook the ferries coming and going.

Thank you to everyone that took the time to reply. I greatly appreciate your help. I do have the guide book, so thank you for the suggestions. I have written them all down and will start checking right now.
