Donna, It would help to have some further information regarding your stay in the Cinque Terre. Do you have a preference for one of the five villages? When will this trip be taking place? What price range and type of accommodations would you prefer?

We will be there mid october for three nights. Do not have a preference on which town to stay in. Looking for something convenient. Middle of the road accommodations fine. NOt looking for cheap - want to be comfortable but do not need high end.

Look in Rick's book and e-mail any of the people listed there. We just left Vernazza and stayed in rooms arranged through Monica. They were very small and a few steps up but perfect for another couple and my husband and I. You could also contact Massimo at Il Pirata for rooms. While we were there, july 19 - 24 many people just showed up and asked in town for rooms and seemed to have no problem. I made my reservations a few months ahead and Franca held our room for us with no deposit. We just called her while we were on the train from Rome and told her our arrival time.
Vernazza is our favorite town but Manarola is much quieter and Monterosso much busier. Enjoy!

Donna, Many of the accommodations in the smaller villages consist of B&B-style rooms. Especially at that time of year, you might be more comfortable staying in Monterosso. It's the largest of the five villages, and therefore has the best choices in Hotels. Have a look at This Hotel in Monterosso to see if it fits your criteria. It's somewhat above the town so not as convenient for access, but on the "plus" side, the views are great! October is rapidly approaching, so I'd suggest getting some reservations soon! Cheers!

Hotel Villa Steno is very nice and family owned. Clean, comfortable and rooms have balconies with the most wonderful view. But, lots of stairs to reach the hotel. Their sister hotel, the Hotel Pasquale is down by the water (so not the stairs to climb). If we were to return, would would still want to stay up on the hill because of the incredible views. Rick Steves uses both hotels for his Italy Tours that stop in the Cinque Terre. We stayed only at the Hotel Villa Steno on our Heart of Italy tour a few years ago, and half of the people on our tour stayed at the their sister hotel. All were very pleased. Both hotels include a very nice breakfast. Reserve quickly, as both hotels fill up quickly.

We stayed 3 nights at Hotel La Colonnina in Monterosso at the end of April. We thought it was a wonderful hotel. The staff were excellent and very helpful with suggestions. Great morning breakfast. We also enjoyed Monterosso. I thought it was a bit quieter and more relaxed than the other towns.

hello donna: we are going to Italy and one of our visits will be MANAROLA in the Cinque Terera region. After reading many travel books and looking at Trip Advisor's reviews for Manarola's hotels and bed & breakfasts....we chose The Carugiu B&B. It is a simple place but with very good reviews and in our budget range. Paying cash, it will cost 300E for 4 nights. Unfortunately, it is without breakfast but i believe they give you a coupon for a sweet cafe shop.
We chose MANAROLA because it won't be over run with tourists and cruise ships (i.e. Vernazza)....i wanted to be off the beaten track as we will hike or take the boat or train to the other towns. Have a great trip!

Hi Donna.....we recently stayed in Riomaggoire at rio rooms, solution 2 for 60 euros/night for 3 days in May. It had a very comfortable bedroom, small eat in kitchen, bathroom and inner eating porch. But it also had the most fabulous private large terrace overlooking the sea. We loved it and and also liked Riomaggoire as it seemed to be not overrun by the huge throngs of tourists as in the other villages. The town also had several take out restaurants that we would get our dinner and then eat it on our terrace, which offered a better view then most restaurants had. We would cook breakfast in our kitchen, though. Have a great adventure.

I'll recommend La Torretta in Manarola: http://www.torrettas.com/ It's not super cheap, but it's still reasonable and gets something like 5 stars on tripadvisor. Our room had a balcony overlooking the sea, a minibar, great shower with multiple jets, small flat-screen, stereo, freezing AC, and a nice bed. Breakfasts are good and are served outside on the patio. The hotel is way up near the top of town, so the views are spectacular. Nice, quiet town. You can swim right off the rocks.
