Place to stay between Siena and MXP?

Hi,

I'm trying to decide what to do on our last night in Italy. We have a flight out of MXP at 4 p.m. or so. Originally thought we'd drive from Siena to MXP, return our car, take the train into Milan and spend our final night there.

But now I'm thinking rather than going to MXP two times we should stay somewhere on the way between Siena and MXP. Does anyone have any recommendations? Bologna would be nice but would be worth it to drive in, have a car and spend one night there? Is there a beautiful agriturismo or something on the way? Or one of the car factories that my son might enjoy?
Would appreciate any thoughts!

Bergamo might be a nice place to spend a night. It's not big, good restaurants, parking in the newer part of town, spend the evening/morning in Bergamo Alta. There is a shuttle bus as well, but the drive to MXP is only an hour.

Pavia is a nice, unassuming historical city, which you almost pass coming from Siena. Continuing to MXP you can have a look at the wonderful Certosa di Pavia, some 10 km north of Pavia. A relaxed and rewarding ending of your trip.

Ranco in the SE corner of Lake Maggiore, close to MXP. Charming small town, good restaurants.
Ferry service.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Some of these seem north of MXP. Ideally I'm looking for a place to stay in between Siena and MXP to break up the drive. It's ok if the place is an hour or two from MXP as our flight the next day isn't until 4 p.m.

Last year I was looking for a last night stay between Montalcino and Linate. We stayed in Castell d'Arquato, a small and scenic medieval town. It was a little over an hour to Linate and would probably be a bit farther to MXP. It was a great place to spend our last night in Italy
