Pitti Palace or Palazzo Vecchio with kids

Ok... so we can't do and see it all. Which is a better choice to visit with our two daughters ages 10 and 14? I would really like for them to get a sense of the Medici world/life/wealth... Not so set on seeing paintings but the costume museum would probably be a big hit. That said we are already committing the biggest tourist crime in Florence by skipping Uffizzi. (husband and I have been before and we don't think our kids will get a lot out of it) Also, keep in mind I am trying to minimize our walking due to my husband having an injury. We did not go to either of these palaces on our last trip.

We were just in Florence and my two girls age 8 and 10 liked the Pitti Palace a lot. The interiors were beautiful and the gardens immense. If you get to Rome the Borghese Gallery was a hit with them too. Happy Travels.

Palazzo Vecchio has the tower to climb of course....would be a hit with kids. And the views are worth the climb. But if your husband has an injury, he'd probably need to sit it out.

"we are already committing the biggest tourist crime in Florence by skipping Uffizzi."

No, you're not. You gave a perfectly good reason for skipping it this time, and as you said, you can't see everything. So, there's no crime at all in seeing what you want on this trip, and not seeing other things.

I'm posting because this is a pet peeve of mine - the idea that there are "must sees" in the literal sense, that NO ONE can skip when going to a place. Obviously, a place like the Uffizzi is special and important, but so are many other places. If it doesn't meet a particular traveler's needs/wants for a particular trip, a place can be omitted - even a world famous one, or one that everyone else says you HAVE to see.

I thought the best thing about the Palazzo Vecchio was the free toilet (accessible without entrance fee to the site). Okay, some of the upstairs rooms were nice. I was at the Pitti Palace last month and toured the costume museum and the gardens. That's definitely your best choice. Skip the art museums, it will be too tiring to do it all in one day.

Pitti Palace - the costume museum is NOT costumes or military uniforms. It is a collection of about 8 high society women's dresses. That's it. The rest of the palace is an extensive art museum. The treasury contains elaborate, jeweled reliquaries mainly. I hope this helps you.

Boboli gardens at the Pitti Palace was one of our favorite things in Florence and with kids, I don't think it would even be close. If you want to climb a tower, go up Giotto's (or the Cupola at the Duomo) and spend the extra time enjoying the vast gardens!
