Looks like a charming town. Also called " Little Jerusalem" Any experiences?
It's a very special place. It's not as visually spectacular as Civita, but it's a close second. And it offers so much more on the inside. People actually live there and thrive. Shouldn't be missed.
We visited Pitigliano, but stayed in an agriturismo out of town. The best thing about Pitigliano is the view from the road out if town at night when the town is all lit up. Pitigliano is a bit sleepy, but we were there in late October. We especially enjoyed the naturnal cascading hotsprings at Saturinia, about 20 km away.
The ancient Jewish sites are fascinating as they were dug into the soft rock. If I remember right there's a bakery and baths and a warehouse. Above is a nice Sinogogue from about 1900. Very evocative place. Around town don't miss the Etruscan paths, now trails. Called the Via Cava, they are one of the best experiences I've ever enjoyed in Italy
I breezed thru a couple years ago. I would love to visit this area again for its sleepiness and Etruscan history. It's in Italian but the visuals are really good in this video:
Great link, Jennifer!
Thank you Jennifer, very good video
Glad you guys like the video!
Wow, that looks gorgeous. Thanks, Jim, it's now on my list too. The video didn't show much life in the town - is there much in the way of residents and businesses? Or has most everyone moved away?
