Is there a little cafe or shops directly close to the tower? We are there on a day trip only, my family has tickets to climb and I choose not to. I'm hoping for a relaxing cafe stop or shopping.

There are a number of cafes nearby for you to wait. The farther away you go the less touristy it becomes.

Denise, i choose to not do tower cuz of fear of heights and lack of joy found in over crowded tight stairwells :) i toured bapistry and enjoyed watching some short films on the visitors center about attempts thru the centuries to straighten the tower. What i did not find, in doing this, was public restrooms
