Pisa to Venice - travel between Firenze Campo di Marte & Firenze SMN

Traveling from Pisa to Venice by train. We have 56 mins to transfer from Firenze Campo di Marte & Firenze Santa Maria Novella. Nervous that there is not enough time. Has anyone done this? Is it better to take the short frequent train between the two stations or take a taxi? Is it hard to find a taxi there? Thank you!!

May I ask, is it not possible to take the train from Pisa to Firenze Santa Maria Novella?

What date is this for?
I did random bookings for different days of the week, and there is only one change of trains and that is at S. Maria Novella in Florence.
No need to go between stations at all.
Can you share what and when you are looking at?

I hope you have not bought tickets yet.
Be sure to book with Trenitalia.
There have been a few threads here lately about travel agents booking trips for people and it becoming obvious that those agents had never travelled themselves, and made terrible choices for people.

Thanks for your reply. I am travelling on Sept 6 and bought tickets on Trainline for Pisa (depart 0733 am) and arriving in Venice at 11:34 am. I didn't notice until after I bought the tickets that there was this transfer from Camp di Marte stn (8:24 am) to SMN station (leave SMN at 9:20 am to got on to Venice).

The summer timetable hasn't been released yet, so the full schedule hasn't been loaded. You should also usually book with directly with Trenitalia or Italo rather than with a third party booking site.

Yes to using the official railway sites, as Jeff said. You’ll want Trenitalia.com for your trip. Although the September schedule isn’t out yet, you can look on Trenitalia for a few days from now to get a pretty good idea of what’s going to be available. I just did that, and saw that there are several trains per hour between the two Firenze stations for the time you need, so you should be fine (there tends to be a mid-morning gap in the schedule, but that shouldn’t pertain to you). Anyhow, the stations are really pretty close together.

Thanks Jeff! But what does that mean then :-( I booked those tickets with Trainline, I've paid for the tickets. How can they sell them then if they haven't been released? Will I still be able to use them?

The tickets have been released.
You could just pay another 9.30 CH and instead of the 9:33 IC train, take the 9:44 regional train to Firenze SMN and get your Frecciarosso there and not have to worry about the transfer from Campo di Marte.

Another option is to stick with your current ticket, then take a train from Campo di Marte to SMN for an additional 1.60 EUR. There are trains at 8:29, 8:34, 8:39, 8:45, all taking between 7 and 10 minutes that will get you there in time to get your Frecciarosso to Venice.

If you're really worried why not just get a taxi at Campo and be at SMN in 10 minutes? There's a taxi stand just down from the train station exit. Google says it's an 8 mniute drive and a 40 minute walk and that's assuming you don't get lost and aren't carrying luggage.

My advice is you made a minor and correctable mistake so just through a couple of euros at it and fix it. You could probably make it on foot but why stress about it when it's not necessary? It happens - you're arranging travel on the other side of the world and that's amazing and challenging and minor mistakes can easily be corrected.

Have a great trip,

Thank you everyone! You have all been so helpful to this novice traveller! :-) I am learning so much as I plan for this trip.
I think just to avoid any time stress of doing the tight transfer, I will pay the extra 9,30 euros and instead of the 7:33 IC train going to Firenze Campo di Marte, I will take the 7:44 regional train that goes directly to Firenze SMN and the (already paid for) Frecciarosso there and not have to worry about the transfer from Campo di Marte. There is another train I could take from Pisa to Firenze SMN leaving around 7:38 as well.
Thanks so much again everyone for your ideas!

There are about 60 trains a day from Pisa to Santa Maria Novella (where trains to Venice depart), that is really unfortunate you bought that crazy option.

I don’t know if you’d have pay something to change your ticket. However I wouldn’t take a taxi from CM to SMN because the cost of the taxi will be more than the cost of a brand new ticket from Pisa to SMN. That taxi is going to cost you at least 15€, the train ticket from Pisa to Firenze SMN is 9.30€. If you can’t make the change, I would rather use the one you have only for the Firenze Venice portion on the Frecciarossa, and I would buy a new ticket from Pisa to SMN for 9,30€, just like Sam said.
