Pisa to Rome via train

I am looking at train schedules from Pisa to Rome with a connection through Firenze SMN. The transfer time listed is 16 min from train to train. Is this enough time? It sounds close.

Yes, it should be.

But the more important question is, why are you taking that route? The scenery isn't particularly spectacular on that line, and you can very easily avoid changing trains by taking of the direct trains which go straight between Pisa and Rome all day long.

Why the long detour, just to change trains?

It's a little tight but the trains, even the local ones from Pisa to Firenze SMN are nearly always on time or within five minutes. My advice would be to take an earlier train from Pisa to Firenze SMN, they have one leaving about every 30 minutes from Pisa to Firenze for some peace of mind.

Weird - the first time I input info on Trenitalia I only got connections through Florence. I hit the Back button, re-entered the very.same.info...and got several direct trains. Personally, I'd go direct. But FWIW, yes, 16m should be plenty of time.

lutz,

A transfer time of 16 minutes is quite adequate, especially in Florence where all the tracks are close together. It's simply a matter of disembarking from one train, walking across to the next platform and boarding another.

As Nigel mentioned there are a few direct trains on that route (no changes), so that's an option to consider.

Thank you all for your replies! I appreciate it! I will likely look into the direct- the website I was on yesterday only had one direct with a regional train (which took a lot longer than making the connection in Florence). I have since found a different website offering more directs. Thank you again!

the only websites you should be looking at are DBahn for the all the details and Trenitalia for the costs. Look on the next week for full detail, then for the InterCity trains on the direct line see what deals are available. If it is a Saturday there should be a two for one available.

" Look on the next week for full detail"

This is very important; the regional trains are only loaded a week at a time. So, if you're traveling on a Wednesday, look at the Wednesday coming up to get all details; if you look further out, you'll only see the fast train options.
