Pisa to Rome

Planning to visit Pisa in the AM on my to Rome on one day of my trip. Any ideas for places/villages to visit along the way to Rome? I plan on arriving in Rome mid-evening.

You have a wonderfully difficult dilemma ahead of you on that day, because there is so much to see in the Tuscany territory you'll be passing through. We travelled through Italy for 3 weeks last May, stopping briefly in Pisa in the morning (you do not need much time there), but we wanted to see several hill towns before our destination of Seina that night. We loved Volterra, and ate a memorable hearty Tuscan meal in San Gimignano at Chiribiri, but did not reach Siena until midnight! Other choices on your way: Cortona, Assisi, Orvieto, and especially Civita de Bagnoreggio! All of these hill towns were far more beautiful and interesting than Rome was, to us. Have a blast!

Pisa is really not worth the trip. Ok see the tower and then what?

I personally would not skip Tuscany and head to Rome. Rome is Rome. It is a big city with crazy drivers and lots of old things to see.

Tuscany is where you can experience the dolce vita of italy. Stop in any hill town, get a bottle of brunello some bread and cheese and sit back and watch the grapes grow. You will never want to leave.

I would skip a few days in Rome and spend them in a little agritourismo in tuscany and live the good life.

I took one look at the tower and basically thought "Who in their right mind would spend 15 euros per person to climb that"
