It's way too early to see schedules for April, but there probably won't be much change. You can go to the Deutsche Bahn website, enter Pisa Centrale and Napoli Centrale, choose a date in the immediate future that's the same day of the week you anticipate traveling next April, check the "Local Transport" box, and see what pops up. I'm getting 7-1/2 hour regionale trips (connecting at Roma Termini) departing at 7:45 AM and 11:45 AM.

TrenItalia indicates that you can expect to pay about 34 euros on regional trains. It appears that the walk-up fare on a fast train would be between 52 and 92 euros. If you were in a position to buy a ticket way in advance, you might be able to travel on a fast train for as little as 20 euros.

Bryan, the answer to any question about how to get from A to B by train, is to look it up on the railway company's own website (not a reseller). In the case of Italy, that is Trenitalia: http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
Also read this page from the "man in Seat 61" website, the best info source about train travel on the web: http://www.seat61.com/Italy-trains.htm

Pisa to Naples will involve a "Regionale" (local) train to "Firenze S. M. Novella" (Florence) followed by a "Frecciarossa" (High Speed Train) to "Napoli Centrale" and will take about 4h30.
Prices will be a lot cheaper if you book in advance, starting at €37. Buying on the day will be more expensive (€74).
You can look this all up yourself on the abovementioned Trenitalia site.

I am also leaning towards going to Florence since ill only be an hour away, i fly out of Rome, but havent been to Florence or Naples either.Im not sure if i should leave Naples/Amalfi for another trip it will only be 9 days total

Pisa-Florence-Naples-Rome is really too much for nine days, even if you leave out the Amalfi Drive (which is time-consuming to get to). I'd definitely spend as little time as possible in Pisa.

I think im just going to go from Pisa the next day to Florence for 3 days and then 5 days in Rome. Maybe save Naples/Amalfi coast for the next time, i dont want to try to squeeze too much in in the 9 days i have on the ground.

Bryan,

Whichever places you decide to visit, I'd suggest using fast trains wherever possible as that's a much more efficient use of your very limited travel time. In those cases where you do use Regionale trains with locally purchased tickets, DON'T forget to validate the tickets before boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot! With the fast trains, tickets are specific to train, date and departure time so can only be used on the ONE train listed on the ticket. If you board the wrong train by mistake, fines on the spot!

Your latest plan sounds good especially for the short time frame. Pisa, Florence and Rome would be about right for nine days. You can always make a day trip from Rome or Florence to cover a bit more ground. Siena is a good day trip by Bus from Florence. Orvieto is a good day trip by train from Rome.

My flight will be getting into Pisa around 230pm, im trying to decide to stay in Pisa for the night after seeing the tower/etc., or see the tower then move on to another city between Pisa and Florence that night, any recommendations?

Sorry forgot to add, would it also be okay to get into Pisa at 230pm see the tower eat and then hit the train to Florence that night?
