Taking train from Cinque Terre to Pisa or Siena then driving to Montepulciano. Does any place on this train line have rental agencies near or at the train station? We are hoping to use Hertz or Avis since we plan to return car at Oriveto train station.

The Hertz and Avis websites will tell you whether they have a pick up location at the Siena train station. If they do, rent there. If they do not, determine if they have one at Pisa; if they don't have a pick up at either train station, consider renting from another company that does, or pick up in Siena at the closest location to the train station.

Neither Hertz or Avis are at the Siena train station. Hertz is about 300 meters away, all up hill. Avis is about a 8 euro cab ride away.

Hi Ron. We did the trip in the opposite direction. Siena is a busy and large place while Pisa is pretty simple. You might consider picking up your car at the Pisa airport. Its a simple commuter train ride from Pisa Centrale or a €10 cab ride. Then you're out of town, great signage and close to the autoroute. It worked really well for us, except we picked up our car in Orvieto and dropped in Pisa. We used Hertz. Great locations at both ends (right beside the train station in Orvieto) and friendly staff.
