Pisa or Orvieto?

If you had to pick one, which would it be, and why?

Pisa is only a 2-3 hour place to visit and then leave. Orvieto is a nice city to spend 1-2 nights seeing the Duomo and St Patrick's well. Orvieto is a nice city to walk around and the views of the countryside are great. In addition Orvieto has nice eating places and a lot a ceramic shops.

Orvieto for sure!! Orvieto is a great little town; there are lots of interesting things to do there whereas the main draw to Pisa is the leaning tower & beyond that, there's really not much more to do there. I would even dare to say that Orvieto is a "must see". I suggest the 1-hour underground tour in Orvieto and a trip to the top of the tower for the views (Torre del Muro). You could also walk to the bottom of the well but just walking around the town itself is wonderful. Also, be sure to view the facade of the Duomo when the sunlight is hitting it; it's probably the most beautiful duomo facade I've ever seen in Italy. Have a great trip.

Orvieto is a delight. Wonderful ambience and perfect size. Beautiful cathedral and easy accessibility. One of our favs. Visited both last trip and no contest!

I would also pick Orvieto. It is a charming little town. We only spent half a day there and I would have liked to stay longer. We stopped in Pisa on our way from Lucca to Cinque Terre. We spent a couple of hours there and that was actually more than enough. Besides the Leaning Tower and the Field Of Miracles there didn't seem to be another reason to spend time there. I would love to return to Orvieto. I can't think of any reason that would take me back to Pisa.

Both are great fun. I've been to Orvieto twice. Mostly because I had to get back to my favorite ceramics shop to buy another piece. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Pisa. Seeing the Leaning Tower and the duomo were on my "bucket list" It's something that you see in photos, but to see it for yourself is amazing. We explored every inch we could of the Field of Miracles during a day trip from Florence. Either town is a good 1/2 day journey. Orvieto is like most other hilltop towns. There is a beautiful church there, mostly from the outside, the inside not as well preserved as Siena's or Florence's churches. St Patrick's well is fun, and the view from the town walls are beautiful. First trip to Orvieto was during a bike tour, we spent an extra night there, but rode the bike to Civita to see that hill top town. My vote is for Pisa, just so you can take a photo of holding the tower up from falling over!

How about sienna? Last time I was in Italy I had to choose to leave from the airport in Pisa or Genoa. We chose Genoa and we are extremely happy that we did. It was a great and thoroughly normal place, not touristy but interesting and lovely people.

Melody, Here's another very definite vote for Orvieto! It would help to have some idea how long you'll have for your visit there, and where the next stop is?
