Pisa - Leaning Tower

We are arriving via train in Pisa from Milan. We have almost 3 hours in Pisa and want to advance purchase tickets to the Leaning Tower. What is the best way to get to the Leaning Tower and how long will it be to and from?

I am thinking taxi, but I am not sure. I want to narrow down the time so I can pre-purchase my Leaning Tower tickets to an accurate time.

You can catch a bus right out front of the train station that will take you past the Field of Miracles - it only takes about 15 minutes. We left our luggage at the train station and made the return trip in under 3 hours.

How frequently do the buses run and how do I find schedule?

How much do they cost or do you need a pass?

We paid maybe 20 Euro for a taxi who took us there in just a matter of minutes.

First time here we had a car but was here again last July arriving by train from Florence for a daytrp. Per Rick's Tuscany guidebook we got off the train at the PI S.RT station (Pisa S. Rossore)instead of the Pisa Centrale station and it was a very easy, short walk to the tower, about 4 blocks. Then upon leaving we took the bus back to the Centrale train station to head back to Florence, all in Rick's book and very easy to do. If you check Trenitalia's schedule it will tell you all the stops your train will make and you will know if it stops at S. Rossore station.

Kathy with a 3 hr. time limit you will for sure want to purchase your tower tkts in advance. First time we visited Pisa was in 2002 when the tower had just reopened to climb. Arrived without reservations, In June, and had to wait maybe an hour. Last summer made reservations prior to leaving home. Even though they ask for passport info when making your online reservations they still asked for my passport upon pkg up our tkts. I only had a copy of the passport with me which they accepted for our entire gorup. No where did I read that you had to have your passport with you.
