Pisa for a few hours before catching a flight

I will be driving to Pisa from Chianti, to return rental car and catch a flight to Paris. I have 2-3 hrs to see Pisa. Is it safe to park in the city ( with the lugagge in the car) and later drive to the airport and return the car, or would it be better to drive early to the airport, return the car, store the lugagge at the airport and take a bus to see the city before our 2 pm flight?

Hello Silvia, It seems to me that by the tone of your question you already know the answer. Are you hoping for somebody to say, "yes, go ahead and tempt nasties" so that when something goes wrong you won't be responsible? BTW - I like the Field of Miracles but 90 minutes is more than plenty.

Thanks for the responses. No, I don't know the answer, reason why I asked for feedback. Haven't been to Pisa and don't know how safe it is to leave a car with luggage for a couple of hours), or if going to the airport will cost me too much time (and hastle/$$ storing luggage) to to go back to the touristic area. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Hello again I didn't mention this earlier because I don't fly and while I visit airports quite frequently for food and shopping (Birmingham International and Geneva), for good cheap hotels (Gatwick and Heathrow) and to collect or drop off folk (many UK airports), I don't get to the business end where check-in is. Have you considered dropping the car, then checking in your luggage, maybe even yourself, then heading to Pisa for the Field of Miracles in remaining time? Its only 5 minutes from Pisa Airport to Pisa station by train. We had a really easy bus from the station to just opposite the Leaning Tower when we did it.
