Pisa Field of Miracles with small bags

Hi. We're dropping our car at the Pisa airport, then later taking the train from Pisa to vernazza, each travelling with a small 17 inch wheeled carry on bag. One option is getting to Pisa centrale and checking those bags, then going back into Pisa. We've been told there can be quite a line up for the bag check? Basically all we want is a quick see in Pisa. Don't plan on climbing the tower etc. Is it feasable to simply take our small bags with us to the field of miracles (perhaps by taxi from the airport), then walk around a bit and then continue on to the train station by bus or taxi, or even walking?

Tim,

Yes, you can wheel your bag with you... or check at Pisa Centrale - I never saw a long line whenever I visited by train although others on the message board may have more insight as I never had to check a bag at the rail station...

I have seen folks wheeling their luggage (or carrying their backpack) through the Field of Miracles!

There are other sights to see in the Field of Miracles... you can then ride the bus (with your luggage) back to Pisa Centrale and catch your train!

There is a "small" baggage check for those folks climbing the tower - you put your stuff in small lockers, but I suppose they could "hold" your larger bags!

I guess if I came that far.... I might climb the tower! Good luck in your adventure! Ciao!

Tim, it's a 30 minute walk to the tower and Field of Miracles and another 30 minute walk back. Your luggage could be a burden. The Pisa train station has an excellent staffed luggage storage area. We used it and it was fine. Your fear of a long line is unfounded. We didn't encounter more than a couple of people in front of us. We did find on our return that the agent was gone for 15 minutes and the place was closed. But, everything was OK and we didn't miss any trains.

With your back to the station and your front to Track #1, turn left and go down almost to the end of the buildings. Turn left between the last two buildings and walk towards the building in the rear right. You will see a sign that says baggage storage in Italian (which I forget). The staff there will store your baggage behind the counter AND will ask for your passport to photocopy your picture. A piece of paper with your picture will be placed with your luggage. Then, when you return, you have to show your passport to get your luggage back. 3Euros per bag. Works great.

Thanks guys. We're just doing so much on this trip (3 weeks)and are a little afraid that we're trying to squeeze in too much. We leave Volterra on a Thursday morning to drive to Pisa airport. Michelin says that will take us about 1:20 minutes. The car rental return area seem unpredictable but we all know that can take some time. And we'd like to arrive in Vernazza by 1:30 or so, train leaves Pisa at 11:53. So it doesn't leave much time. probably over thinking it. lol...that's what I get for 6 months of pre planning. We leave Sunday... Cheers

I would suspect that you can. Read my post above on how to get there. The staffed storage area has shelving. They place your luggage on the shelves. I'm sure that your guitar would do just fine there.
