Pisa and Luca from Florence

How is the best was to se Pisa and Luca from Florence. I want to be efficient with time.

Would it be best to have a driver or to take the train?

How can I see the most quickly?

Are the [Carrara quarries - see 2nd post] worthwhile for the time it takes?

I did not understand what you meant? "why trying to do both is not expedient"

I think the poster is saying you can't do both in a day trip from Florence. I totally agree.

You've asked about a day trip to either San Gimignano or Montepulciano in another post. We can better help you if you give us more details of your trip, including length of stay, where you'll be arriving from and leaving, time of year, how many in your party and general age, etc. Also, have you traveled abroad before and if so, have you been to Italy before? From the kind of questions you are asking, I'm guessing no to both.

Pisa and Luca are doable in one day to a certain extent. As already was advised, you can do that on Trenitalia train. I didn't find Pisa really attractive, as I think the most interesting part of the city is the Tower and Baptistery near it itself. As far as I remember the travel time from Firenze SMN to Pisa is about 1hr and from Pisa to Luca is around 30 mins. You will spend like 2 hours a day on a train travel, the rest is for your exploration of both cities.

We did both Pisa and Lucca in one day from Florence. We took an early train to Lucca, walked around, rented bicycles to ride the city walls, walked some more and had a late lunch. At the station to return to Florence we noticed cheap, fast trains to Pisa and hopped on at the last moment. We had been to Pisa years earlier, so a quick visit to the tower and environs with the easy bus connection to and from the Pisa train station was simple. Frequent service returned to Florence. Not our most in-depth adventure but we had a nice day of it.

We also did the Lucca/Pisa trip in one day. It was a somewhat long day but Lucca was certainly worth it. My kids wanted the Pisa photos so we did a quick stop there and then headed back to Florence.

Pisa and Lucca can easily be done as a single day trip from Florence by train. I would go to Pisa first thing in the morning and then go to Lucca, which I find much more interesting, afterwards. The way to visit both towns "most quickly" would be to hire a car service to drive you, but that would be expensive and it makes no sense to be in such a rush. Regional trains run frequently, so you can return whenever you're ready. I suspect you'll decide to linger longer than you anticipate before heading back to Florence.

hey hey michelle
The “best” way to see pisa and lucca is different for everyone. look at rome2rio.com, which shows you distances, means of transport and cost approximately. you don’t book with them. don’t know how many people, what are dates for this trip, budget in euros?
if skies the limit, hire private driver for a day trip.
come&seeitaly.com has tours from Florence,
florencetown.com
plan your own trip on the train, trenitalia.com, trainline.com, loco2.com
what times, costs, stops. make sure you validate tickets before getting on trains.
if you want to climb tower at pisa, online tickets only. opapisa.it get there early see what you want then train to lucca walk around, rent a bike, have lunch, enjoy, relax, no hurries, worries or stressing. slow down and savor Italy.
