PISA Airport Train Station to be closed

Just an FYI for the travel advisers on this site. The train station inside the Pisa airport will be permanently closed starting December 8, 2013. In December construction will start on a new people mover which will connect the Pisa airport with Pisa Centrale station and permanently replace the current train link. The people mover is scheduled to be completed two years later in 2015. So take this info into consideration when you advise travelers using the Pisa airport. http://firenze.repubblica.it/cronaca/2013/08/24/news/due_anni_senza_treni_per_l_aeroporto_di_pisa-65215509/

Can you please tell us where you saw the information about the train station closing in December? I searched the internet for information and found nothing. I did find that the People Mover must be completed by December 15, 2015 but nothing on the train station closing this year.

Roberto, Thanks for posting as I hadn't seen anything on this previously. These videos may show what the new system will look like and provide further information: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5YIHU9KxIw www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NaVYoLUwrY You'll have to provide some further information on the content of the second video, as my Italian isn't good enough to understand all of it. This appears to be somewhat similar to SkyTrain in Vancouver, which is automated and doesn't have a driver on board, and exactly the same as the OrlyVal train in Paris, which is also automated and serves as a connector from the airport to the regular rail network. I suspect this could be the start of a trend, and we may see these appearing in other locations in the near future. Cheers!

According to the article, buses will replace the trains until the People Mover is finished. It's not like there will be no public transport between the airport and the Pisa station.
