I am staying in Arezzo and want to go to both Monterchi and Sansepolcro by bus to see Piero della Francesca paintings. (I realize that Resurrection is in restoration but still visible thru glass). The Arezzo bus agent suggested travel Arezzo to Monterchi, Monterchi to Sansepolcro, then Sansepolcro back to Arezzo. If anyone has experience with this itinerary, I'd appreciate input. I like to take my time while viewing art and visiting cities (am spending 5 full days in Arezzo, so there is no time pressure to fit everything in on one day). I could do round trips from Arezzo to each of these destinations if that would eliminate any urgency in travel. On the other hand, if it makes sense to follow the suggested itinerary without any pressure to rush from one place to the other, that would be good as well.
Thanks for sharing experience.
Be sure to check in advance if you need reservations. We were in Arezzo last year and couldn't get in to see the Legend of the True Cross because we hadn't made reservations.
Beware Sundays and holidays, when bus service often drizzles down to nothing.
Piero is one of my favorite artists. I saw "The Flagellation" last summer in Urbino.
I suggest two separate daytrips so you can experience the artwork and these two lovely cities.
Lizth,
What bus are you planning to take to these 2 cities?
I'm dreaming of a trip to Tuscany in the future & have been taking notes.
Thank you!
