Pienza vs. Montepulciano?

We're planning to take a day trip from Siena with transportation either by bus or train. I'd planned that we'd take the bus loop to Pienza, Montepulciano and then back to Siena. But, looking at the bus schedule it looks like we can only stop at one location to make the connections:

11am leave Siena, Bus Line #112:
Noon - arrive at Pienza OR 12:30 arrive at Montepulciano
2:30 leave Montepulciano OR 2:45 leave Pienza
Arrive in Siena at 4pm

Which do you recommend - 3 hours in Pienza or 2 hours in Montepulciano?
Any other bus or train daytrip that you would recommend, instead?

This will be our second time to Siena; we took the RS Northern Italy tour 9 years ago.

There is another way to make both towns: the train option. Trains have more extended schedules.

TRAIN dep. Siena 08:04 - arr. Chiusi FS 09:23
BUS dep Chiusi FS 09:30 - arr. Montepulciano Bus Station 10:20
VISIT MONTEPULCIANO and have early lunch until the time to take bus to Pienza below.

BUS:
Dep Montepulciano 13:45 Arr. Pienza 14:04
or also (if lunch lasts a little longer)
Dep Montepulciano 14:25 Arr. Pienza 14:44

VISIT PIENZA for time necessary to make the following 2 return options back to Siena (via Montepulciano via bus and Chiusi-Siena via train).

RETURN OPTION 1:
BUS T12 Dep Pienza 18:00 arr. Montepulciano 18:20
BUS F_T4Dep. Montepulciano 18:30 arr. Chiusi FS 19:20
TRAIN: Dep Chiusi FS 19:55 Arr. Siena 21:22

RETURN OPTION 2 (last train):
BUS T12 Dep Pienza 19:00 arr. Montepulciano 19:20
BUS F_T4Dep. Montepulciano 19:40 arr. Chiusi FS 20:30
TRAIN: Dep Chiusi FS 21:47 Arr. Siena 22:59

You're amazing Roberto... ; )

I like both towns very, very much, equally. We spent 3 nights in Montepulciano. If you have to pick just one, I'd pick Pienza only because according to your op, you'd have more time there. 2 hrs is not enough time for Montepulciano imo.

But Roberto's info is the best option!
