We are planning a 2026 Italy trip. We usually go to the country once every 2-3 years. Out last trip was to Emilia-Romagna and we loved digging into the food of that region. We’ll be going for about 11-12 days. Would you do Piedmont or Sicily next - and why?
What time of year are you going, I think that would make my decision. Sicily will be warmer much sooner than Piedmont, but probably hotter than I'd like for June through September.
I haven't been to Piedmont yet, but we did Sicily a year ago in April, the food was wonderful, but I have a feeling that you would find Piedmont a more similar feel to Emilia Romagna than Sicily, so that might sway me as well.
November/December 2018 we spent 2 weeks in Piemonte, March/April 2025 we spent a month in Sicily (and had spent 10 days there in 2001, too). If food is the main objective, you really can't beat the variety and uniqueness of Sicilian food. The food in Piemonte was excellent, but I have to say that I got a bit tired of it by the end of the trip. For art and architecture and scenery and a very different feel from any other region, Sicily also wins hands down.
Depends on time of year.
I've been to Sicily multiple times and always had fantastic trips. But it's a much larger area to cover than Piemonte.
Time of year? Transport preference? (Piemonte: you need a car; In Sicily it depends and can be done without)
