Piedmont Wine region restaurant recommendations

Hello,

In October my husband and I are heading to do some Barolo and Barbaresco wine tasting in Piedmont. We're staying in Canale as it's the only apartment we found with WIFI that would be walking distance to restaurants at night (avoiding drinking and driving). We'll be eating all our dinners in that town but I want to start planning lunch in the nearby towns. I'm not a fan of modern / Michelin type places. I'm looking for traditional restaurants and really want to try the fresh pasta with white truffles somewhere. Locations we're looking at are from Asti to Barolo, that's all very doable from Canale. I would appreciate any recommendations that you have up your sleeve. Thank you!!

Hi,
When I was in Alba, I hooked with a wine guide named Evan Byrne, a Brit who married an American oenophile (like himself). He took me to Osteria More e Meccine in the village of La Morra and it was really outstanding. The views over the Piedmont Valley from the Town Square were gorgeous. If you google it, you'll find a website or Facebook page. Great fresh pasta, along with other dishes. I also enjoyed Osteria dell' Arco in Alba proper, as well as Sognatori, both of which were in Alba. Not sure how far that it is from where you're staying though.

Good luck

I also enjoyed Sognatori--bustling, cozy, just the place. I noted my husband had the crudo, I had a sorrel pesto, and we both enjoyed pasta with sage.

Fantastic!! Thank you very much for the recommendations. Alba and La Morra are very close to where we'll be :).

Hi champagnekittypaw,

I can recommend the following restaurants:

  • Trattoria dei Bercau in Verduno

  • Trattoria "da Lele" in Bossolasco (lovely town with art work on the

    walls of the houses)

  • Le Torri in Castiglione Falletto

Also, if you are going to be in La Morra, they have a wine tasting in the Cantina Communale on Saturdays in October. Taste different wines of the region for 15 euros.

If you are going in early October, there is a Medieval Costume Parade and Donkey Race on the first Sunday in October. (Been to it 3 times!)
