If Rick Steves does not cover a place, it's because the place does not exist. Or maybe it's just because one needs to do some further research. Start from the official Italian Tourism site: http://www.italia.it/en/home.html Click on Discover, then select the region (Piedmont).

I have just returned from nearly three weeks near Turin, so if I can help with specific questions, just ask. In general, I didn't find a lot of printed material either. I enjoyed the book "Back Roads Italy" which has an interesting driving tour of Piedmont. I used the online official tourist sites of Piedmont and Turin. I just surfed a lot and followed any leads or tips. I do recommend a car, though I'm usually a train fan, because the pleasures in Piedmont, outside of Turin, are usually small towns and pretty drives not served by frequent or high speed rail. If you are looking for a week or more vacation rental instead of hotels, I recommend Sterling Properties Northwest Italy. The owner is fantastic and our villa was so far above our expectations that I'm still stunned (a former Savoy castle that is rarely rented). Hope that's a start.
