Could you clarify what you are asking? I need a lot more context to understand what you are looking for.
You can not add too much detail, really, so include:
which tour you are taking, how many days you have to travel post-tour, and how you wish to travel. The Piedmont is difficult without a car.

Booking a tour in Piedmont from 9/9-9/14.
Will fly into Milan.
We will not have a car.
Was looking for ideas of post trip ideas. Would have to do train travel.
May settle on Milan as it’s simple.

Where does the tour begin and end? And how many days can you devote afterward?
Are you interested in Milan? It really depends on how much time you have and what you want to do, but the lakes are accessible from Milan. I would consider Turin.

As usual, miuccia makes a great suggestion. I paired a brief stop in the Piedmont (~4 days) with a stay in Camogli, then flew out of Milan.
