Piedmont and the Lake Region

We will be driving from the French Riviera to Venice. Our stops along the wine are the Piedmont wine region, Lake Como and then down to Padua before reaching Venice. We would have one night only in Piedmont (Montfort d'Alba) and one night on Como. Any suggestions or advice about this venture.

They are both worth much more time, of course. What kind of info are you interested in for your brief stays? Are you staying in the City of Como?
The most scenic area of Lake Como is in the cental part- Menaggio, Varenna, Bellagio.

Loved both Alba and Barolo villages. Is one night in each place really worth it giving all the driving you will do? Why not just cut out Lake Como and save the drive north and do 2 nights in Piedmonte instead.

You could also consider dropping the car in Turin and taking the high speed train between Turin and Venice.

learning the hard way... when we talk to our Italian friends who live in Bologna about our experience in Piedmont - they have no idea what we are talking about ... do not pronounce the D and save yourself some embarrassment

I would skip Como since the and stay two nights in Piemonte. We stayed in Barolo and loved it!
